Before the election, electorates were advised not to go with umbrellas to polling units as it is a symbol of a political party. Today’s presidential and National Assembly elections have turned out to be a big nightmare for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, with the members being killed, attacked and disenfranchised in various parts of the State. “Armed militias working for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have intensified their killing of APC members. Scores have already been killed and several others marked for elimination. This morning in Kpite Town, Tai Ward 2 and other areas of the State, five people were shot dead by PDP’s armed militia, and that was before accreditation commenced,”
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nigeria has adjusted the guidelines for the elections to address some of the challenges being faced during the accreditation process across the country. The chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee of the commission, Dr. Chris Iyimoga, told reporters that “where card readers fail to work, presiding officers can accredit voters by marking the voter register”. The Department of State Service has uncovered plans by some persons to announce election results ahead of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, warning Nigerians and international observers to disregard any such announcement.
The DSS made this known yesterday in a statement signed by the Service spokesman, Marilyn Ogar and made available to LEADERSHIP Friday, in which she warned Nigerians who have no business with the elections to stay away from polling centres.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega says that results from today’s general election will be announced 48 hours after the elections have been concluded. So expect results on Monday March 30. The Jigawa Independent National Electoral Commission Friday night announced the postponement of election of House of Representatives in seven out of the 11 Federal Constituencies in the state. This was disclosed to newsmen by the Resident Electoral Commissioner Alhaji Haliru Tambuwel after a stakeholders meeting with political parties and security operatives. Tambuwel told Journalists that they had to shift the polls in the affected constituencies because of lack of ballot papers in four constituencies while three had inadequate ballot papers adding that the commission in the state did not receive ballot papers for Dutse/Kiyawa, Ringim/Taura, Hadejia/Kafinhausa/Auyo and Jahun/Miga Federal Constituencies
