An infamous cult leader known as "Black Jesus", who was suspected of cannibalism, has been chopped to death in a remote Papua New Guinea village, reports said.

Steven Tari, a convicted Molester, had been on the run since escaping from a prison in Madang in the Pacific nation's east during a mass break-out with 48 others in March this year.

Sylvester Kalaut, the Madang police chief, said on Friday that Tari and one of his followers were killed at a village about 20km outside Madang on Thursday as they were attacking a young woman.

"He is now dead and this could be the fate of the others who are also on the run from authorities and I am warning and strongly urging those escapees to surrender themselves to authorities," Kalaut told the PNG Post-Courier.

Tari, a failed Lutheran pastor who was widely known as Black Jesus, was found guilty in 2010 of Molesting girls who belonged to his Christian-based sect and sentenced to up to 10 years.

At the time, he had thousands of village followers, including a core of armed warriors to protect him, in what is commonly referred to in PNG as a "cargo cult".

As part of his "culture ministry", he preached that young girls were to be "married" to him as it was God's prophecy.

Kalaut said the woman Tari was in the process of attacking was "a flower girl tricked into joining the cult", adding that angry villagers had surrounded him and his companion and killed them.

His death follows that of a young high-school girl about a week ago, a murder alleged to have been carried out by Tari.

When he was captured in 2007, there were widespread allegations that his cult also practised cannibalism and sacrificial blood rituals, but police only charged him with molestation.

PNG is a sprawling nation where black magic, sorcery and cannibalism sometimes occur.

Last year, police arrested dozens of people linked to an alleged cannibal cult accused of killing at least seven people, eating their brains raw and making soup from their manlinesses.

President Jacob Zuma's office said the government would like to wish Mr Mandela "all the best" as he continues his recovery at his Johannesburg home.

….French Language To Be Part Of UTME As From 2014…

The Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufa’I, said on Thursday in Abuja that French would be part of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) as from 2014 for interested candidates.

Rufa’I said this at farewell reception held in honour of the French Language Project Manager, Mr Jean-Phillipe Roy.

She said that being multi-lingual in the 21st Century was essential as it helps individuals to operate more effectively in the international community.

“For Nigeria, the study of French language is quite key, considering the fact that our neighbouring countries are French-speaking.

“Apart from the English Language, French Language is one of the major international languages, ‘’she said.

She said Roy came to Nigeria in 2009 under the 2nd Bilateral Agreement between Nigeria and French.

The minister noted that he had worked hard to ensure that various components of the project received due attention.

Rufa’I lauded his contributions to the reform of the UTME for 2014 in addition to the scholarships awarded to 16 teachers of French Language to study in France for one month.

She said the project manager’s contributions, included supply of books to schools, award of Masters Degree in French as a Foreign Language and supply of DVD and CD player to the project office, among others.

The minister lauded the support of the French Government to the Nigerian French Language Village, Badagry, Lagos, the Regional Network of French Language centres in Africa.

She also commended the Association of French Language Teachers, and noted s the proposed handing over of the project vehicle to the ministry for the monitoring of the teaching and learning of the Lanaguage.

“Nigeria and France have come a long way in their relationship. It is a relationship built on mutual respect, cooperation and interest.

“I wish to assure you that the ministry will continue to be committed to the teaching and learning of French Language in Nigeria and sustenance of the cordial relationship,’’ she said.

She called on the French Government to introduce similar programmes to complement, sustain and consolidate the achievements made so far.

Responding, Roy lauded the collaboration between the Federal Government and the French Government.

“Since I have been here, you have shown a lot of interest in what we have been trying to do in terms of decision-making in critical issues and, with your help, we have been able to keep the project on the right track.

He said that French Government had so far organised 160 training sessions in various parts of the country, adding that 4,290 people participated in the programme.

Roy called for continued collaboration between the Nigerian Government and the French Government.

In his remarks, the Counsellor of French Cultural Affairs, Mr Patrick Perez, stressed the need to sustain good relationship between the two countries.

“We will like to thank you for all your efforts to promote French Language in Nigeria and we hope that this collaboration will continue to grow from strength to strength, ‘’he said.

A 21-year-old girl identified as Kemi, at the weekend, committed suicide in Isale Asa Ilorin, Kwara State.
According to National Telegraph, the deceased, who was a fashion designer, allegedly took her own life with a locally-made rat poison known as sole lasan following uncomplimentary comments from her mother during a brawl.

A neighbour, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the girl and her mum had a quarrel on Friday night and in the course of the brawl, Mummy Kemi, as her mom is popularly called, referred to her daughter as “a complete failure and a disgrace to the family”.

The neighbour said the deceased’s mother, who operates a grinding machine nearby, went to her shop and Kemi, who was unhappy with her mother’s comment, went into her room and drank the poison.

“When Mummy Kemi came in about 30 minutes later, she saw that Kemi was writhing in pains. She was said to have raised the alarm,” the source said.
The source said sympathisers, who suspected Kemi might have taken a poisonous substance, quickly rushed her to a nearby hospital for medical attention but the doctors there referred them to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital.

She died on her way to the teaching hospital.
Olufemi Fabode, the State’s Police Command’s spokesperson, could not be reached for confirmation as his mobile phone was switched off.

…Fake CNN Journalist Arrested In Bayelsa State…

….He is a Nigerian and His Name is PAUL YEMPE…

The Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Bayelsa State, Comrade Tare Akono, has apprehended and handed over to the Department of State Service (DSS) a 36years old man identified as Paul Yempe over his false claim to be a Correspondent to the Cable News Network (CNN) in the Niger Delta region.

According to the SSS, the fake CNN reporter was arrested with an Identification Card of the Rivers State Broadcasting Corporation known as Radio Rivers and a fake Identification card of the CNN.

It was gathered that the fake journalist was arrested in the office of the Commissioner for Energy, Barr. Akio Francis last Thursday.

The arrest, it was gathered, was made possible due to the coincidental presence of the NUJ chairman,Tare Akono at the Commissioner’s Office.

The suspect, according to a security source, had allegedly swindled some of the state officials.
