…Former Zenith Bank Managing Director, JIM OVIA Opens Massive School in Delta State….

Ex-Zenith bank MD, billionaire business man Jim Ovia has set up a massive school in his hometown of Agbor in Delta State. The school is called James Hope College (JHC) and has a Briton as the principal. Mr Ovia built the school, which is supported by a substantial endowment fund, in his hometown to make education affordable to his people. The academic session for the first set of students will start in September 2013.

Pastor Rodney Wills was just about to reach 4 years at Mt. Salem Baptist Church when the unusual happened. Reported by AmericaPreachers.com

He is the youngest pastor to be installed at 26 years old and is now the shortest term pastor in Mt. Salem’s 109 year history. On Saturday, Mt. Salem voted him out for attending a local Rick Ross concert. With a vote of 11 to 3, the 14 deacons met at 11pm Saturday night to discuss and come to a conclusion that they did not need his services anymore. Rev. Wills arrived to the church the next day for Sunday morning worship service and notice his parking sign taken down and his name removed from the office door.

The deacons even asked another minister from the community to officiate the service that morning. “We cannot have our leader supporting people of this world who are tearing down the kingdom of God.” said Deacon Miles Langley.

According to Deacon Langley, this is not the first time Rev. Wills has attended a concert while pastoring Mt. Salem. 9 months ago the diaconate board met with Rev. Wills when word was given to them that many youth and young adults spotted the pastor at a Lil Wayne concert.

“We know that many saints will have mixed opinions from our actions, but this is not how we do things here at Mt. Salem. We cannot have a pastor praising the world one minute then praising the Lord the next. Period” said Deacon Langley.

Former Governor of Lagos State, BOLA TINUBU is Sick !

….He Will Undergo Medical Surgery in Foreign Hospital This Week…

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the former Governor of Lagos State and a leading founder of the All Progressives Congress, has been absent from public engagements in the past few days because of health issues, the Tinubu Media Office has said.

“Based on previous sports injury on one of his knees and recent further aggravation on the knee from rigorous political and family related activities, he has been advised by his Doctors, despite his persistent reluctance that orthopedic surgery is necessary at this time,” the brief statement said.

The surgery will take place this week, and Tinubu will resume normal political activities and public engagements once cleared by his doctors.

The statement did not say where the procedure will take place.

…EFCC Arrests Man With 30 ATM Cards, 8 Signed Cheques …

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested one Kingsley Mudi over alleged ATM fraud. He was picked up at about 11 pm on August 2, 2013 at Fidelity Bank ATM on Airport Road, Warri, Delta State following an intelligence report.

At the point of arrest, 30 ATM cards of different banks with which he allegedly withdrew a total sum of five hundred and fifty thousand naira (N550, 000) were found in his possession. Eight signed UBA cheques belonging to sundry persons were also found on him.

Kingsley Mudi, who claimed to be a Disc Jockey and an operator of a barbing salon, has volunteered useful information.

He will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.

…Man Sets Friend Ablaze For Having SEX With His Mother In Enugu State -

A father of four, Mr. Sylvester Ezema, of Akpa Edem, Nsukka, Enugu State was on Saturday last week set ablaze by one Sunday Ugwuoke of the same community.

The incident, which happened in the early hours of morning has created much confusion and tension in the community.

A source who pleaded anonymity told DailyPost that the victim was ambushed around 5:30 a.m when he came out to urinate.

According to him, “Ugwuoke on sighting Ezema, poured petrol on him before setting him ablaze. After the heinous act, he ran away and is still at large till now”.

He further revealed that the shouting of the victim attracted sympathizers, who rushed him to Chukwudi Hospital Nsukka, where he later died.

Meanwhile, Ugwuoke was alleged to have told some of his friends that he had warned the victim several times to stop having amorous relationship with his mother.

Efforts by our correspondent to get reactions from the deceased’s family proved abortive as they declined comment.

When contacted, the Enugu State Police Public Relation Officer, Ebere Amarizu, DSP, confirmed the incident and said that police had started investigations to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The matter has been reported to the police. After investigations, those indicted will be arrested and prosecuted.

“The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Bishop Shanahan Hospital Nsukka for post mortem examination”, Amaraizu stated.

…Ecobank Ex- Manager Sentenced to 2 Years in Prison for 65Million Naira Fraud…

Justice Dije Abdu Aboki of the High Court of Kano State recently convicted and sentenced Usman Salifu to two years imprisonment for stealing.

The convict was alleged to have stolen the sum of N65, 000, 000 from one Yusuf Sale Dunari’s fixed deposit account domiciled at Oceanic Bank ( now Ecobank) where he was a Branch Manager. The convict who had pleaded not guilty upon arraignment, dramatically changed his plea by admitting his guilt to all the 4-count charge.

The defense counsel pleaded with the court to tamper justice with mercy, saying that the convict is a first offender, and has aged parents and many dependants. But the prosecuting counsel M.M Gambo urged the court to make orders regarding restitution in sentencing the convict. Justice Aboki accordingly convicted the accused and sentenced him to six months imprisonment with option of N2m fine on the first count, six months with option of N500, 000 fine on counts 2 and 3 and four months imprisonment with option of N500, 000 fine on count 4. All sentences are to run concurrently.

There's a new Domestic Violence Law in Lagos State, and it states that if you beat your wife, you will go to Jail. It is now an offense for any man to hit his wife.

According to the deputy governor of Lagos State, Hon Joke Orelope-Adefulire, the Domestic Violence Law is made not only to protect women who are most times the target of violence in the home but also to safeguard the interest of men, children, servants, maids and everyone who may be a victim of domestic violence.

In case of man/woman abuse issues, it does not matter whether there's a valid contracted marriage between the victim and the perpetrator of the act as long as they are living together in a home setting.

In further confirmation of its academic excellence and intellectual supremacy over and above other Universities and Institutions of Higher Learning, the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has, again, been rated the first and the best University in Nigeria and 8th in Africa.

The new webometric ranking released on Monday, 5th August, 2013, by the Cybermetrics Lab of Spain (a world-renowned Research Council) and circulated round the world, moved Obafemi Awolowo University higher on the ladder from number 14 to number 8 in Africa. This is a development that academic analysts and managements of universities in Africa have hailed as a monumental leap for educational advancement in Nigeria. This is the first time that a Nigerian University would be so ranked consecutively.

It would be recalled that Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, was, early this year, rated by the Cybermetrics Lab of Spain as the first and the best University in Nigeria and 14th in Africa before the new webometric ranking that was released today.

Reacting, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bamitale Omole, attributed the giant strides recorded by his administration to the unparalleled research output, administrative acumen, technical know-how of the academic, administrative and technical staff of the University, adding that only a focused leadership, which is the hallmark of his management team, can produce such a spectacular feat.

Professor Bamitale Omole, then applauded the dedication to duty of all stakeholders in making sure that the ideals of the founding fathers of OAU become a reality in its entirety. He urged the Federal Government not to relent in its efforts to improve the funding of education, particularly for the universities, so that the increased penchant for travelling abroad to undergo academic programmes that could be taught better by our lecturers here in Nigeria would be a thing of the past.
