….Chibuike Ameachi Don’t Insult Me, I’m Old Enough To Be Your Father…

… Mr. Jang You Are Undemocratic For Not Accepting Defeat…

The factional leader of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Governor of Plateau state Governor, Jonah Jang, has said he is not quarrelling with Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State insisting that he is too old for such squabbles.

Speaking to journalist at the sideline of the dinner organised by President Goodluck Jonathan to celebrate his mid-term in office, Mr Jang said he is old enough to be Mr Amaechi’s father.

He said, “Amaechi is my younger brother, infact, I can say son because if you look at Amaechi’s age, I’m old enough to be his father.”

Ask to respond to Mr Amaechi’s statement that he polled 19 to defeat him at the NGF elections, Mr Jang said, “Well, that is his problem but I know that I am the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.”

Mr Amaechi defeated Mr Jang of Plateau by 19 votes to 16 last month to re-emerge as the forum’s chairman. Mr Jang, alongside 15 other governors have since formed a parallel forum.

Jang is undemocratic

Mr Amaechi, who had earlier presided a brief meeting of 15 governors at the Rivers State Governor’s lodge, had referred to Mr Jang as ‘undemocratic’ for refusing to accept the result of the NGF election.

Also speaking to reporters at the presidential dinner party, the Rivers State governor said, “Anybody who support him, including the television house is undemocratic.

“I have said it in a statement that at any point in time, we can’t accept 19 governors against 16, then we are afraid of 2015.”

Asked if he was suspended from his political party – the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – for refusing to step down for Governor Jang, Mr Amaechi said, “If the party is suspending me for that reason, then too bad; the party too must learn to be democratic.

“I’m not aware that the party has given any reason for suspending me but if they say this is the reason then it is too bad. The party is yet to give me any reason for my suspension, but if that’s the reason that means the party is undemocratic.”

…His Name is WALKO-CHIKO…

“ His Biggest Regret in This Life is Not Meeting MICAHEL Jackson When He Was Alive”

Michael Jackson who died on June 25, 2009, his Nigerian look-alike, Michael Eze popularly known as Walko-Chilko, has blamed no one but himself for his inability to get in touch with the “stage idol” while he lived.
Expressing regrets in a chat with VANGUARD NEWSPAPERS during the week, Walko-Chilko said, “ The greatest mistake I have ever made in my life was my inability to meet Michael before his death. While he lived, people advised me to send my photograph to him, but I never took the advice seriously until after his death.”
Speaking further, Walko-Chilko revealed that when PMAN used him to welcome Marlon Jackson to the country a few years ago, the first question the latter asked was whether his brother knew his activities.
The Imo State-born pop singer who is returning to the spotlight with a new album, ‘Come Let’s Heal The World,’ described the late king of pop as “ the greatest entertainer that ever lived in the history of the world.”
However, explaining why he decided to imitate the late Michael Jackson’s lifestyle even after his death, Walko-Chilko noted that they share a lot in common. “I play pop and I’m a good dancer. I believe I have the same look with Michael Jackson despite my colour. I admire Jackson very much and I believe even the life a black man is living today is imitated,” he explained.
The pop star’s new album is being dedicated to the late Michael Jackson’s Heal The World Foundation. According to him, Jackson’s legacy has to be sustained. “I wrote the song in support of Michael Jackson’s Heal the World Foundation. It was written because children of the world need helping hands.”
The 10-track album also features songs like ‘My Love is Free” ‘Pretty Mama Jama”, “Peace for Africa” and ‘African Heroes’.
According to Walko-Chilko, the songs in the album are mainly party songs that flow with the trend.

…Bank Security Man Breaks own bank ATM, Steals N12 million …

A security man and employee of First Bank Nigeria Plc, Jibowu Branch, Seyi Jaiyeola, is standing trial at a magistrate’s court in Ebute Meta for allegedly breaking the company’s automated teller machine and stealing a sum of N12, 533,900.

The bank’s branch Service Manager, Mr. Kayode Aiyewunmi, who gave evidence in court, said Jaiyeola was on a N20, 000 monthly pay and was a member of the Odua People’s Congress.

He said the company had observed that one of the bank’s four ATMs was having a reconciliation problem and had employed the service of an expert to help unravel mysterious disappearances of money.

Aiyewunmi said, “We discovered that there was always a shortage of cash in the machine.

“Despite our reconciliation efforts, the ATM was still having problems and we engaged the service of an expert who submitted his report and said the machine did not have any reconciliation issue.

“He said somebody was breaking into the machine in the middle of the night to steal the cash.

“I reported the matter to my boss, who said I should conduct an investigation into the matter. “When the last breakage happened, we went to play back the branch’s CCTV, and we now saw Jaiyeola in the middle of the night, opening the window at the back of my office. There’s a control panel which controls the security door, which he touched. So, the CCTV stopped.”

He said it was at that point the company concluded he was the brain behind the theft.

…Lagos State Introduces "MERRIMENT TAX" For Every Party Celebration…

Have you ever heard of merriment tax? Lagos State Government says residents of Lagos spend more than N1 billion on merriment and entertainment monthly.
The state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, MrAdemorin Kuye, gave the figure at a news conference organised to mark Gov. Babatunde Fashola`s sixth year in office.

He said the figure was derived from a research recently conducted by the Ministry of Budgeting and Planning, which showed that the residents spent a lot of money on entertainment. Kuye lamented that the benefits of entertainment had not been fully tapped to boost revenue generation in terms of taxes. "There is merriment tax in the constitution; it is part of the rates local governments can collect. We have not fully utilised the benefit of the entertainment industry in this state. "Over N1 billion is spent monthly in Lagos state on entertainment, we have the records to confirm this and these people, how many of them pay tax?
``The money goes into drinks, wine, food, aso-ebi (uniform dresses) and all of that and when they spend all of this money, they do not want to pay anything to the government." On the clamour for autonomy for local governments, Kuye said those behind the agitation were not sincere but only pushing for it to score political points. "The position of the government is that the clamour is not with sincere intention because it will not benefit the local governments.

``I have challenged people to go out there and find out if it is what the people want.``Those clamouring are doing so for political gains; to use the local government to get elected into positions.’’ He said it was the same people that had earlier said there was no need for local governments that were now saying money should be given directly to the councils.

What's your say on this merriment tax? Do you think it's a welcome development?
