South African Rapper ‘Jub Jub’ Guilty of Murder


South African rapper Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye has been convicted of murder and attempted murder after driving into a group of schoolchildren in 2010.

Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye and his friend Themba Tshabalala were found guilty on four counts of murder and two of attempted murder after their speeding Mini Coopers ploughed into the children as they walked back from school in the Johannesburg township in March 2010.
“The death of the deceased was caused by the accuseds’ reckless driving at high speeds while under the influence of drugs and alcohol,” said the judge, Brian Nemavhidi. The pair could face life in prison.

The Federal Government has declared Thursday and Friday as public holidays to mark the 2012 Eid El-Kabir celebrations. The Minister of Interior, Abba Moro who announced this in Abuja on Monday, called on Nigerians to imbibe and emulate the worthy tenets of Islam as practiced by the holy Prophet Mohammad.
A statement by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of interior, Daniel Nwaobia quoted Mr Moro as urging the citizens to pray for peace and prosperity of the nation.

The comic acts have floated their own movie production company and they have christened it Aki and Pawpaw Entertainment Nigeria, APEN.

One of India's most influential film-makers, Yash Chopra, has died from dengue fever in Mumbai, aged 80.

DIPLOMATIC INJUSTICE: 215 stranded Nigerian fishermen return from Gabon

National Emergency Management Agency on Monday said the  215 Nigerian fishermen stranded  in  Gabon had returned to the country, the News Agency of Nigeria reports. A statement issued by the agency’s Head of Public Relations, Mr. Yushau Shuaib,  the Nigerians arrived in the country on Sunday. The statement said NEMA decided to help the fishermen back in the country  after the Gabonese authorities issued an eviction notice to fishermen living in Nende, Mouka and Kenza Islands.

Nigeria Medical Association has announced that 5,000 Nigerians seek overseas treatment monthly

OVER 5,000 Nigerians travel to India and other countries monthly for medical treatment, the Nigeria Medical Association said on Monday. As a result, Nigeria loses over $500m annually, with $260m going to India. The President of NMA, Dr. Osahon Enabulele,  WHO said this at a press briefing to herald the Physicians’ Week with the theme: ‘Prescription Rights—its Abuse and implications for the Health of Nigerians’, regretted the situation.
