43-yr-old Austrian skydiver, Felix Baumgartner breaks world record by jumping from space

History was made today as Austrian skydiver and a BASE jumper Felix Baumgartner successfully completed his free fall, from the edge of space diving to the Earth’s surface.

Baumgartner, using only a space suit, helmet and parachute made the jump, setting a world record for skydiving 127,000 feet (39 km) in the sky. He however did not break the record for longest-lasting free fall.
Called Stratos, the dangerous mission was sponsored by RedBull. He used a helium-filled balloon to carry Felix 24 miles up into the stratosphere where he made the jump.

tions against Nollywood actor, Nkem Owoh, popularly known as Osuofia, if he failed to pay damages for allegedly demolishing her house in Enugu State. Mrs. Gloria Ayogu who is a widow and an employee of Federal Government College, Enugu, has since 2008 been at war with Owoh over a piece of land at 9, Ikpeama Street, Emeheluaku Layout, Trans-Ekulu in Enugu metropolis. The widow said she had long reported the case to the police and vowed to see the matter to the end. She said her late husband bought and registered the landed property before he died in 2004.

President Goodluck Jonathan to host 49 countries on medical issues, Tomorrow

President Goodluck Jonathan is scheduled to host the international working meeting of the United Nations Commission on Life-Saving commodities for Women and Children on Tuesday in Abuja.
The Deputy Director, Public Relations and Protocol Unit, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, Mr. Abubakar Jimoh, in a statement on Sunday, said the meeting was a follow-up to an earlier one convened in Oslo, Norway in August by the country’s Prime Minister, Jens Stoltenberg, who is a co-chair of the commission with Jonathan.

Four farmers commit suicide over flood disaster in Kogi

Four farmers in Kogi State have committed suicide as a result of losses they incurred due to flood just as thousands of others have been displaced. President Goodluck Jonathan who disclosed this yesterday in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital while undertaking a tour of the areas affected by flood  encouraged the Internally Displaced People, IDPs, in Bayelsa State not to give up hope, assuring that the Federal Government was committed to rehabilitating them. He stated this in one of IDPs camps at Samson Siasia stadium, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Uniport Four Victims: Vice Chancellor confirms Tekena as student

 VICE Chancellor of University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Prof. Joseph Ajienka, has confirmed that Tekena Erikena, who was killed alongside three others at Omuokiri-Aluu community, penultimate Friday, was a student of the university. He said, weekend, that the university later found out that he registered for a certificate programme. The Vice Chancellor said initially, the university could only confirm three of the four killed as students of the university, adding that effort was later made to ascertain if the late Tekena, who did a basic programme with the university, was later admitted to any formal programme.

Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdelaziz Hospitalized after Shooting Accident

Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdelaziz has been flown to France for medical treatment after he was shot in what officials say was an accident. He had surgery in the capital, Nouakchott, and will get more treatment at a French military hospital. Before leaving, Mr Abdelaziz, 55, appeared on television from his hospital bed to say he was OK. A military patrol is said to have mistakenly opened fire on the presidential convoy late on Saturday.
