The NEWS Headlines:
1.            Mr. Endy Edeson the editor-in-chief of EDESON ONLINE NEWS is planning to start a QUIZ SHOW on facebook and winners will be given free recharge cards and a grand prize of a Blackberry phone.  The QUIZ Show will start next week.
         2.         GOVERNOR Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State, weekend, said that 10 Fish and Cassava processing industries would be established by his government before the end of the year to create more employment for Deltans. Briefing reporters in Warri, he said more than 17,000 Deltans have been offered employment since 2007 when he assumed office in the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, civil service, health, teaching, sports sectors.

         3.         Hard times await those who live under flyovers bridges in Lagos State as Governor Raji Fashola (SAN) has owed to reclaim all the lands from those he described as illegal squatters and miscreants in the different parts of Lagos. This was coming as the governor disclosed that the Lagos new city, The Eko Atlantic, will only accommodate 250,000 residents and 150,000 commuters daily on completion.
4.         An Abuja Magistrates’ court on Friday sentenced one Kale Hassan, 28, of Mabushi village to three months imprisonment for joint act and extortion without an option of fine. The Senior Magistrate, Mrs Vera Tukura, who did not give the convict an option of fine, handed down the sentence after the convict pleaded guilty and begged for leniency. Earlier, Police prosecutor Simon Ibrahim told the court that the matter was reported at Utako Police Station on August 9, by Mr Adeyoyin Adebayo of No. 147, 6th Avenue, Gwarimpa, Abuja. He said that the convict and another person, now at large, attacked the complainant around Zone 6 junction and accused him of stepping on their charm.
5.         PART-TIME SUSPENSION UPDATE: The NUC has said that the part-time programmes being run by universities in the country have only been suspended and not scrapped.

FOREIGN NEWS/ENTERTAINMENT::
6.         German director Kurt Maetzig, who was banned by the Nazis from making films but went on to co-found Communist East Germany's state-owned film production company, died on Wednesday, a former colleague told Reuters. He was 101.
7.            British Arsenio Hall, whose TV talk show was among the hottest shows in the early 1990's, will return to late-night TV to host a new syndicated talk show in fall 2013. In fact, CBS Television Distribution (CTD) has sold the new Arsenio Hall late-night syndicated talk show to stations in more than 85 percent of the country. The show that will premiere in fall of 2013 is now set to air in all of the top 50 markets.
8.         The Wikipedia pages of US presidential candidate Mitt Romney and other members of the Republican party who may run alongside him have been locked down. Wikipedia has put a silver padlock icon on the top right hand side of their entries. This means that anonymous users cannot make editorial changes to content relating to the politicians. The measures were taken after comedian Stephen Colbert suggested on US TV that viewers should edit the pages.
9.       London is gearing up for the final events of the London Olympics ahead of Sunday night's closing ceremony. Crowds are expected to line the streets over the weekend to watch the walking races and men's marathon as athletics concludes in the Olympic Stadium. Organiser Locog said a number of extra closing ceremony tickets could be made available before Sunday's spectacular. Team GB are seeking to boost their best medal haul for 104 years but were unable to secure wins in BMX finals. Shanaze Reade finished sixth in the women's final and Liam Phillips fell in the men's race.

Breakdown of 2012 May/June Waec Result


 The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Friday said it withheld the results of 112,000 candidates who sat for the May/June 2012 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Giving a breakdown of the results; only 1,672,224 of the 1,695,878 candidates who registered for the examination nationwide sat for it.  Those who sat for the examination include 923,974 males and 748,250 females and that only 1,545,004 had their results fully released.                                                                  
 He disclosed that 771,731 candidates had six credits and above, 952,156 others had five credits and above while 1,107,747 had credits and above in four subjects. 1,246,729 students had credits and above in three subjects and 1,380,596 obtained credits and above in just two subjects. A total of 649,156 candidates who sat for the examination obtained credits in five subjects and above, including English Language and Mathematics. Also, out of the 114 blind candidates that registered for the examination, only 95 sat for it and 21 of them had credits in five subjects including English Language.

A New GOSPEL Artist Has Emerged In Abuja::

Hi guys, I’m glad to introduce to you one of the newest and promising GOSPEL Artist in Nigeria. He is the guy posing on that photo. I have listened to his gospel songs and it really sound nice and inspiring.

I was privilege to meet him in one of my 'trips' to Maitama Abuja and had a chat with him.

He has worked with people like, Kingsley Ike, Pannam Percy Paul.
Cleared the stage with Dunnie Mc Cluckings (U.S.A), Benjamin Dube (S.A), Ron Kenoly (USA). Mitcher Stamply (USA).

He is a dynamic praise singer whose new songs are enjoying massive airplay in Lagos, Abuja and Port-Harcourt. Some say he is like P.Kee (USA) and Kingsley Ike (Nigeria).

A reliable insider just disclosed to EDESON NEWS that P-sqaure's 'wife' Lola Omotayo is pregnant. The lovebirds, Peter of P-square and Lola Omotayo are now expecting their second child. They already have a 3yr-old son.

ANGRY BEGGARS PROTEST in LAGOS


Hundreds of beggars on Monday staged a peaceful protest to the Lagos State House Assembly over their removal from the streets in the state. The President of the Association of Physically Challenged, Alhaji Jubril Hassan, said the government was wrong to have asked beggars off the streets where they were enjoying their social rights. Over 600 beggars had been arrested by the government without providing adequate alternative for them, Hassan alleged.
Henceforth, Anybody found giving beggars money in Lagos will be apprehended and imprisoned for two years.
The beggars adopted PROTEST to express their displeasure and unhappiness with the actions taken and the one to be taken by the Lagos State Government.
