1.        Tragedy struck in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital yesterday when no fewer than five students of the Federal College of Education (FCE), Osiele, were  crushed to death by a tipper.The incident, which occurred about 5:30 pm, caused  pandemonium following the protest by students of the institution who trooped to the road and set ablaze no less than four trucks. EDESON NEWS learnt that the  truck, loaded with granite, rammed into a taxi conveying the students and killed them on the spot.
2.        2.  The Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, on Friday announced the approval of supplementary admissions for five new courses at University of Agriculture, Makurdi. The five new courses approved for admissions in the university’s College of Management are B.Sc Marketing and Co-operatives, Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Management and Entrepreneurship.

A Nigerian Man To Die By Hanging In Malaysia


        A Nigerian man identified as Anthony Esikalam Ndidi and an Australian female nurse, Emma Louise L’Aiguille are currently facing death by hanging in Malaysia. They were both charged with methamphetamine trafficking, an offence which carries death sentence. The 2 were arrested in Kuala Lumpur 15 days ago after they were caught with 1kg of methamphetamine. Drug trafficking offence is unpardonable in Malaysia as it carries mandatory death sentence by hanging.

Kofi Annam Has Resigned


     KOFI ANNAN RESIGNS: Kofi Annan, whose initiative to forge peace in war-ravaged Syria failed to take hold, has resigned as the U.N. and Arab League joint special envoy to the country.U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced the move on Thursday, saying that Annan told him and Arab League Secretary-General Nabil El Araby that he didn't want to renew his mandate when it expires on August 31.

Darey Art Alade's Wife Delivers BabyGirl


The     Wife of a Famous Nigerian singer, Darey Art Alade  delivered a bouncing baby girl on Friday morning at Queen Charlotte and Chelsea hospital in London. According to reports the baby weighed 2.4kg.in a London hospital. It's the couple's second child. Their first child, Femi was born on December 28, 2007. It would be noted that Darey and his wife  Deola  have been married since 2007.

P-SQUARE MOTHER BURIAL: During the week, precisely on Thursday August 2, Mrs Josephine Okoye the mother of  Jude, Tony and Psquare [Peter and Paul] Okoye was laid to rest at Ifite-Dunu house, Akwa Village in Anambra. The burial ceremony took place at St.Gabriel Catholic Church and the lying-in-state took place at Umunachi, Umudioka Village, Anambra State. Insider disclosed that the Okoye brothers led by Jude Engees Okoye, have spent almost N50m on the burial rites for their late mother.

1.        SNOOP DOG NOW SNOOP LION: 40-year-old American rapper, Snoop Dog,  whose real name is Calvin Broadus, Jr., believes that he is Bob Marley reincarnated and is embracing reggae instead of the culture of guns he once rapped about. He said that in Jamaica, he connected with Bob Marley’s spirit and is now ‘Bob Marley reincarnated. He further stated that he visited a temple where he was  renamed Snoop Lion and was also given the Ethiopian name Berhane, meaning ‘light of the world.’

2.         Reports say Hajiya Fatima Al Mustapha, mother of Major Hamza Al Mustapha, the embattled former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State, Gen Sani Abacha, has died. The 70yr-old late Fatima, died at the Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano, yesterday afternoon after a protracted illness.
3.         Medical students of the University of Abuja have finally surrendered themselves for transfer to other universities after the institution failed to provide them with medical facilities for their learning. Students, who stormed the Federal Ministry of Education carrying different placards and chanting songs to express their plight, were bent on the intervention of the ministers of education as they refused to be deterred by the presence of security personnel.
